In the mid-nineties, I won a small cafe contract at Dance Works, Balderton Street, London W1. Full of ballet dancers and wannabe stars auditioning such as The Spice Girls, Eternal, and East 17, I quickly realised that none of my customers ate very much!
I complained to a good friend who had just returned from Australia - 'Go to Selfridges and buy a blender and a juicer. It's huge out in Oz!' he exclaimed. OJs Juice for Life was born. I worked seven days and grew sales from zero to £900 a week which was mostly cups of tea, fruit smoothies, and carrot juice.
Fast forward to 2014 and my contract catering company was acquired by Host Management (part of Ch&Co). From zero, OJs was now turning over £100,000 a week (£5M a year) without funding, and trading successfully through a Great Recession.
Since leaving Host in 2014, I have packaged my lessons learnt into a simple, systemized approach that gets positive results for my clients. I create the best value for businesses in these areas -
• Innovation and Technology
• Operations projects and interim roles
• Customer engagement to increase the average spend per head
• Strategic reviews
• Change management
• Contract monitoring
• Operational auditing
• Financial auditing
Carbon Free Dining is a simple yet clever way to plant more trees, oxygenate the planet, and clean the air we breathe. We have a tree at the bottom of our garden in Brighton that I admit to hugging more than once.
